Oh, how easy for some to rest. Not me.
Last night I was holding baby Connor. He was so tired, and yet he struggled to give in to the sleep. And so, I held him against me, and sang.....over and over....the medley of "Climb, climb up sunshine mountain"......"Peter, James and John in the sail boat"....and of course his personal favorite...."Johnny Appleseed." It didn't take long.....those heavy eyelids slowly closed in rest.
I have been trying to figure out how to rest in the waiting....Maybe you are waiting too.....waiting for a job, waiting for a baby, waiting for...your spouse to leave..waiting for the divorce to become final.....waiting for a diagnosis.......waiting for the last shoe to drop. I am waiting for God to reveal His plan.....the next step. I am waiting for a diagnosis. I am waiting for God's glory to be revealed, whatever that may be. Waiting.
In the waiting, I have become tired. A mentor suggested the other day, that I learn to rest in the waiting. Hhhmm....interesting concept.....what in the world does that look like? I do not know.
And so I look, where I look, when I don't know the answer.

Psalm 27:14
Wait patiently for the Lord,
Be brave and courageous
Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

Psalm 38:15
I wait for you Oh Lord,
You will answer, Oh Lord my God.

Lamentations 3:26
It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

Psalm 62:5
Find rest, O my soul, in God alone
My hope comes from him.

Matthew 11:28-29
Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

  1. The Matthew verse is one of my favorites. He demonstrated it in a different form for me once when I was pregnant with Cadence. Very pregnant, and uncomfortable and exhausted. I prayed to him for a good nights sleep and when I read my bible before bed that night this was the first verse of the study. I've never awoken feeling so refreshed.
