When God Whispered

Today, was a day of loud voices. Today was also a day of broken people. God's people.

I spent most of the day with a friend who was hurting. She was obedient to what God has called her to do, and she was getting ridiculed, and harassed, sworn at and threatened. She felt that even though she was obedient to God, she may not have represented Him in the best way she possibly could, and that gave her much grief.

Then the voices began. Calling her cell phone, texting her, screaming at her, telling her that she was a poor excuse for a Christian. She did nothing wrong. She removed herself from an unsafe situation, and received backlash from people who didn't understand. The voices were so strong, that they drowned out the peace she received from her choice.

And so, in the quietness of the prayer room, we sat. And we prayed. And I was reminded of this.....

1 Kings 19.
Elijah has just finished being obedient to God, and he has just had a major victory. He was tired, and hungry and being hunted by the bad girl of the Bible, Jezebel. Exhausted and empty, Elijah laid down under a tree and prayed to die.

He fell asleep, and when he awoke, there was food there, waiting for him....along with an angel. He ate and drank, and once again fell asleep. This happened another time, until he was nourished and ready to travel, to seek the Lord.

When he finally reached his destination, he waited for the Lord's presence.

1 Kings 19:11-12
"Go out and stand before me on the mountain," the Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there, the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose. but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake, there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire, there was the sound of a gentle whisper.

God was in the whisper.

Sometimes, when the world is screaming, and the phone calls wont stop................when everybody wants a piece of you, and you are just tired and hungry and broken.

God is in the whisper.
