Good Friday

I've always wondered why they call it that. It definitely wasn't good for Jesus.

Good in the Websters dictionary is defined as: Possessing desirable qualities, adapted to answer the end designed; promoting success, welfare or happiness; serviceable; fit; excellent; admirable; commendable; not bad, corrupt or evil.

Wow. I totally didn't expect that. That pretty much describes Jesus, doesn't it?

Well, Jesus possessed desirable qualities, He was the answer to our end design, He promotes our success, welfare, and happiness. He is excellent, admirable and commendable. He is without evil.

I went on facebook this morning and I was surprised to find that so many people have plans that don't include church today.( and no not you Juanita....) Not that church makes your faith, I just assumed that people would want to go, and be with friends and family. I turned on the TV, expecting everyone to understand this holy day. Apparently not. My bad.

There is a song I of the lines is this:
" God forbid, that I find you so familiar, that I think of You as less than who You are. God forbid that I speak of you at all, without a humble reverence in my heart."

How true. How many times, do I go to God, Jesus, with my own needs and wants, and do some pretty fancy begging and bargaining.....without remembering what exactly He did for me. Hasn't He done enough.

And yet, How much is His love for me, that even after dying on the cross, He still wants sooo much for me. He longs to be gracious to me, and show compassion to me.

I kinda think this day should be called 'Good for Me', Friday.

  1. I hear ya I to wonder why it's called Good Friday? The only thing good is that he took our sins on Him and because of that we can have a home in heaven with Him......
